Everytime I turn on my computer, a small window flashes (from Norton) and says "you have turned off your firewall, your computer may be vulnerable to harmful..." and it also says "you have turned off your antivirus/antispyware protection your computer may be vulnerable to harmful..."

Here's the problem, every time I check my Norton Protection Center it always says I'm fully protected, and it stil peforms scans, and it let's me know when I stumble across a harmful website...why does this flash keep appearing? Has anyone ever had that happen with Norton?

  1. Hi Choc1,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support team responding to your question.

The problem you are experiencing can point to a problem with Windows, a software conflict, or a problem with your installation of Norton Internet Security.

The first thing you should do is to make sure that you have all of the latest patches from Microsoft applied to Windows.  Also, make sure that there are no other 3rd party internet security or anti virus applications installed and running as they can cause conflicts with Norton Internet Security and leave your computer vulnerable to attack. The Windows Firewall should be disabled as well.

Next, open Norton Internet Security and manually run LiveUpdate, possibly multiple times until it advises you that there are no more updates available. After LiveUpdate has completed, perform a "Full System Scan" with Norton Internet Security to make sure that there are no infections on your computer.

If you are still prompted by Norton Internet Security that your protection is off, then please follow the steps below to properly remove and reinstall Norton Internet Security.

    1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsg...

    2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Then log in to Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

    3. Make sure that your internet connection is working properly, and then reinstall Norton Internet Security. Towards the end of the installation process, the LiveUpdate feature will automatically run and download and install updates to both the program files and definition files.

    4. When the installation is complete, please manually run LiveUpdate to make sure that all of the updates are downloaded and applied. To do so, Click Start-> All Programs->Norton Internet Security->LiveUpdate. LiveUpdate will run again and download and install any additional updates that are available. When this is complete, close the LiveUpdate window by clicking the "Finish" button.

    Thank you,

    Mike
