Does Anyone Know What Is Strabismus?

I know what it is but the real question is does people make fun of the ones who have Strabismus? My right eye always goes inward when I look straight and when I talk to people while they are looking at me, their eyes are going around because they think I'm not looking at them. How can I tell if they are or if they think I'm weird and cross eyed?

  1. When you blink your eyes do they sort of reset?  Is your left eye steady and could you attend to a person who is talking to you with your left eye so that they know you're looking at them?

  2. Strabismus is commonly known as Crossed eyes; Esotropia; Exotropia; Squint; Walleye. It is a condition where one eye is misaligned while the other eye is focusing. Some symptoms may be Eyes that appear crossed  Eyes that do not align in the same direction,  Uncoordinated eye movements, Double vision, Vision in only one eye. Treatment includes special eye glasses and in some cases surgery.

Your eye doctor will take a complete medical history and a physical eye examination.

  3. I was born with both eyes turned in. Had many surgeries with so much scar tissue that surgery is no longer an option. Neither is any other correction, except glasses, of course.

There is this guy on a bus I ride all the time who gets very irritated when he sees me. He believes, wrongly that I am staring at him. My eyes  do wander and fix in his direction. This of course is not in my control. The muscles are involuntary  at this point.

Even with dark glasses on, which I wear now due to extreme light sensitivity, he accuses me of staring at him. I have learned to ignore him and people like him.

In school when my friends "played" at being cross-eyed, I did not find it amusing. Because I did not join in the laughter, I was not part of that "in" group. That hurt. But, I could not be

    amused by this game.

I spent every second month for many years, with ophthamologists probing and poking my eyes, so I could see

the best that my medical situation would allow. It was not a game to me. Still is not today.

  4. Hi!

My right eye used to wander outward before I had an eye surgery 2 years ago. There isn't really a way to tell if someone thinks you are cross eyed....though, for me, many people pointed it out, and would ask me if I was listening to what they were saying because one of my eyes was looking in the other direction. I would get a little teased about it.  People seem to give tiny looks or expressions that you can pick up if you notice. I mean, when your are having a conversation, they might start to look away if they notice your eye, or sometimes they might even get nervous and start to talk fast. Sometimes, you have to just be observant of the person you are talking to. ;)
