Does Anyone Know Why Ferrets Are illegale In Califonia?

My Mom, brother,and I were looking for houses in CA but i had read somehwere that ferrets were illegale there and i was curious as to why i MIGHT have to give up my ferret.

because there are wild ferrets in california so if yours gets out then it can potentially mate with a wild one, and they dont want cross breeds or something

I heard ferrets are illegal in California and also in Russia, apparently it's because they are really abusive. They get really wasted in bars and start fighting with people, and they swear and curse all the time. I met one once and it wasn't pretty.

I assume you don't live in California now. Getting your ferret across the border by driving will be difficult, but not impossible. All the agricultural stations will now be checking vehicles for ferrets and other pets. If you need information at any time about getting in to California, please contact me.

Why? The PDF the other answerer gave from Golden State explains it all. Ferrets were accidently put on the dangerous agricultural species list a long time ago. Then they realized their mistake, and let people have one s*x but not the other, to keep them from breeding. But they were still illegal. Then they said, "No, let's not let anyone have them anymore" and it's continued that way.

Arnold said he would make them legal and he went back on his promise. There is no real reason they are illegal. In the other contiguous states, ferrets have not proven they can live outside and certainly pet spayed ferrets can't breed. They can't even survive temps of over 80 degrees without getting heatstroke eventually. They depend on us for food, and are domesticated.

The government is now confused over the fact that in New Zealand there are supposedly ferrets wild there. However, they were bred from polecat ferret mixes, hybrids, and deliberately made used to the outdoors by settlers there, who wanted to get rid of rabbits by using polecat-ferret hybrids. This would never happen here. Polecats are the ancestor of the modern, domesticated ferret. No one keeps them as pets and so this would never happen in California.
