Im driving a 1988 Acura legend. i have a pioneer sub running at 1000 watts rms, a Legacy 4299 2 channel amp running at 4000 watts rms and a Pyramid 4 channel amp running at 1000 watts rms. i also have a 1.5 farad cap. my current alternator is shot and im looking for a new but i dont this problem to happen again. so i need to know how many amps my alternator should have to support my system. if it helps i have a Kinetik battery under the hood. also should i upgrade to the BIG 3? I have some 1/0 gauge wires lying around. and if i do need to do so should the power wire running from the battery to cap be a 1/0 gauge also? i know its alot but i need some solutions please help. Thank You

  1. try an electrical repair  shop ad see if they ca rebuild your alternator to have more amps. 400  or  better.

  2. The Legacy and Pyramid numbers are a little high. The Legacy is really only around 900rms. You should look for an alternator that is 200 amps or better. Look to companies like Excessive Amperage or Ohio Generators.

  3. Your sub amp has a 40A x 2 fuse rating, your 4 channel amp has a 30A fuse rating. 1/0 is a bit overkill, but if you have it I don't see any reason why you shouldn't use it.

Big 3 is a definite recommendation at over 750W RMS, I would recommend finding an aftermarket alternator at around 200A to handle your car audio's electrical needs in conjunction with the rest of the car's electrical needs.
