Question:

Does Apple's mini-DVI to VGA adaptor limit the output to VGA, or will it still transmit an SVGA signal?

Apple's own website does not explain it, and I cant seem to find a straight answer anywhere online.

I got the new imac and want to send an SVGA signal (800x600) to my projector with an SVGA cable, but its just that Im not sure if the mini DVI to VGA adaptor somehow lowers the resolution to VGA specs. I mean, after all, shouldnt they call it a mini DVI to SVGA?

Id like an expert (or at least someone who really knows what they are talking about) to answer this one please.

Thanks in advance!

  1. I have one of those mini DVI-to-VGA adapters with my 13-inch Macbook.  It displays 800x600 fine when I hook it up my 15" Dell E157FP monitor (which only has a VGA plug).
