Does Azureus/Vuze install any spyware or malware on one's computer?

There is no spyware/malware etc. in the Vuze program.

The program itself is open source, which means that the program can be examined by anyone with the knowledge.  If there was any spyware etc., it would be found instantly.

That is one of the good things about open source software.

Just make sure you get it at their site as there are some fakes:

The content downloaded through torrents is not controlled by Vuze (except for their content on the Vuze platform, which is all safe) and therefore could contain malware.  However, reading comments and ratings at torrent search sites will help avoid malware.

I wouldn't doubt it. Azureus/Vuze is a resource hogger. Even for quad core processors that program is a pain. Sometimes crashes randomly. Used to be the old Azureus was the best, but I guess they decided to move around that thought. And create something similar to windows vista but Vuze = crud just like vista.
