I cannot believe my eyes when it is reporting that the driver of the crashed Pendolino was 'praised by Richard Branson for trying to STEER the train to safety'. How does that work then?

  1. I saw that interview and you could see Branson wanted to say the driver stayed at his post to "steer" the train, but Branson managed not to say it. He praised the driver for doing as much as he could.

  2. 2 answer ur questions.

yes, the BBC have been known 2 naff-up the ticker-tape, bet the typist had a HEAVY friday night.

yes, within reason the train-driver can aim the engine in2 a safe position & lessen the smash.

according 2 reports he had a split second 2 decide in the impending disaster.

my thoughts r with the families,

another rail crash is the last thing the UK needed!

  3. i don fink so cos iym plyin fo a job

  4. yes of course and i saw it

  5. It sounds as if this was a misproint.

  6. I'm not clear whether Branson actually said 'steer' or whether this was made up by the 12 year old muppets who now edit News 24. He didn't say it on the interview I saw on the ITN  evening news, but praised the driver for staying at his post and trying to slow the train down once he realised it was off the rails. Remember, most of the 'meja graduates' who work for the Beeb have never been on a train in their lives - and I seem to remember a question on this board a few weeks ago asking 'how are trains steered'

  7. monkeys typing the ticker machine I would pay to see that

  8. steering a train? awesome. maybe after it derailed he jumpd at the wall to make it go in one direction... did the guy survive? he was at the front, so I'm guessing not...

  9. Steer, split second decision to point it in the right direction.  Listen when a train comes off the tracks it is going to go the way it wants, no matter what the driver tries to do, the fact that so many people survived the tragic accident is due to the modern construction of the rolling stock.

  10. YES... I met a drunken girl in a nightclub on Friday night at 2am, she said she had to start work at 6am doing the subtitles, they do 12hour shifts too! The funny thing is that she said she was a 'journalist'!

  11. sometimes i put subtitles on just for the crack as they put up some really funny stuff .....i wish i could remember but if you do it for something going out live its even better ( how sad , i know ) ......i agree with yr  monkeys or  "mung keys"  in subtitles.......

  12. I don't know, but your question made me laugh out loud and it was a welcome break from the usual mundane rubbish you see in here.

I have often wondered who it is that does the strip that scrolls along the bottom because if you watch it long enough you do start to wonder if they are just getting bored and and are putting in any old rubbish to see if someone notices.
