  1. It never really ever existed. Although an author did travel from London to Baghdad most of the way by train shortly before the Iran War (The 7.55 to Baghdad)

Currently no - you would of course have to change trains in Istanbul anyway, in order to cross the Bosphorus, but in normal times there was a sleeping car train that ran Gaziantep-Bağdat-Gaziantep, crossing the Turkish - Iraqi border one day a week although this is currently suspended because of the situation in Iraq.

    There currently still is one train a week that runs between Istanbul Haydarpasa station and Tehran (the coaches get ferried across Lake Van) and the journey takes nearly 3 days - one way first class fare is 39.50 euros.
