My car's CD player broke a couple weeks ago now I want to get it fixed. I went to wal mart and bought a cd player cleaner set and it didnt work so now Im thinking of taking my car to best buy so they can install a new one. Has anyone ever went to best buy to get anything install? Is so did they do a good job? Or do you have any suggestions on how to fix the one i already have. Thx.

  1. i had this car radio with a cd player which you could pop in a included portable tomtom GPS installed in my 2004 toyota highlander

they did a great job and even made the sides fit

the highlander had curved corners and the machine had 90 degree corners

they made it looked like factory installed

    it costed $100 tho

which is like 1/3 of the price of the machine

it wasnt such a great deal

since my friend could install it for me and he had the same radio installed on his acura mdx and it looked the same

  2. I've heard bad stuff about places like Best Buy and Circuit City, and a lot of installers might be young kids or even older guys who only know so much, but talk like they know ALL about stereos, etc. Of course some people may be good, like at least one guy already said. But I highly recommend checking out other places in your area, like a high end audio/video store if there is one. Thank God there is one near me, and the only people who install stereos, etc. there are people who have passed certain exams, etc. and have a lot of knowledge on audio/video.

So when I say "other places" I mean a place that isn't a chain store, or the kind of place where only 2 or 3 of them exist. You might be happily surprised to see their prices might be about the same or not much more, or maybe lower than somewhere like Best Buy too, on something that might be even BETTER than what Best Buy has. For example, this store near me that is known to be VERY good with audio/video stuff and does both home and car audio, carries Kenwood Excelon which is a higher end Kenwood car CD player. You most likely will not find that at Best Buy, even though you will see regular Kenwood stuff. Their installation prices were decent and they have a lifetime guarantee on their work.

So yeah, check out other places in your area, if any of these types exist. And make sure to ask around or maybe look online, to see what people say about the Best Buy installation dept. in your area. I hope this helps.

  3. Honestly, a CD player installation is easy.  So, if you're asking do they do a good job installing a CD player, they more then likely can handle that for you, no problem.

Anything more complicated then a CD player install, I would base the decision on the ability of the actual installer as opposed to what company they work for.

  4. Rarely do they have good installers.  I have heard horror stories about them.  Try crutchfield.com.  They have great prices and they come with everything you need to install including pictured instructions all for free.  It's really not hard to do so I would not pay 100 bucks for someone to do it.

  5. I actually work at Best buy and they have a workshop where they istall radios and many other things to the cars, they have warranty for the installation.

  6. I had them put mine in, if you buy a stereo over $100 they'll install it for free. I did have to purchase a special harness though because of the type of car I drive, I think it was about $20. I've had no problems with installation at all, sounds great. They also told me, if I buy a new car they will remove from the old and install into the new without charge. Will be worth it if they really hold up to that offer.

  7. Yeah, I've had them install car radios before, but last time I had it done, it cost me $100, more then the radio itself.

  8. unless you know what you are doing take it somewhere to have it done.  best buy is good

  9. yes I definitly would not recomend installing it yourself, I had my sony cd/ipod player put in my car at best buy and I have not had any problems with it, though if you are in the Sarasota Fl area stop by The Underground for the best audio/prices

  10. The deal with getting something installed at these big box stores is that you don't know what you are going to get.  What I mean by that is that how good the installers are is really store dependent.  You can go to one store and they will have really knowledgable installers, MECP certified even.  However, you can also have questionable or even bad installers.

BB and other big stores don't always care about how good their installers are.  They just want to be able to make the most money they can.  So they want installers that are cheap but will not cost them money by damaging others cars.  I'm not trying to bash BB installers because I know there are some really good ones but I'm just stating what actually goes on.

The hard part is knowing which ones are good and which are not so good.  If you want to get your stereo installed there and you are not 100% sure of how well they install you can always stay nearby and watch them.  I don't mean be in there way or starring at them the whole time but just check in once in a while to see how it is going.  That way you know they will take their time and do it properly.

If you still are not sure of their quality then just bring it to a local car audio shop.  That is usually the best bet to get the most knowledgeable installers working on your car.

One good thing about BB though is that they warranty their installs.  So if anything goes wrong due to the installation they will take care of it.

    Good Luck!!!
