I already work at Big W but my student visa expires in July, but I wondered if I would be able to get sponsered to work with them longer? How would I ask them. Do I ask the store manager or higher up?

  1. i doubt it

    woolworths r pretty stingy

    i work for them

  2. Ask the store manager

  3. I can't believe what I am reading here!

  4. Woolworths/BigW would only ever be able to sponsor workers for skilled jobs where workers are in short supply in Australia. No retail jobs fall into this any category on the SOL (Skilled Occupation List) or the ENSOL (Employer Nomination Scheme Occupation List) so it would not be possible. FYI, here is the SOL/ENSOL of currently listed occupations:

If whatever course you have been doing has led to a SOL/ENSOL qualification, that is the avenue you should pursue rather than a retail employer.

  5. Ask Human resources for your state. They'll help you out.

  6. It is very difficult for Aussie employers to sponsor workers, as they have to demonstrate to the Immigration Department that they are unable to find an Australian able to do the job. As such it is only used for highly skilled positions.

If you have finished studying you may have a qualification that allows permanet residency under skilled migration, that would be the only way to be allowed to stay.
