Does Blu-Ray 1080p actually look 6 times better than regular 480p?

I'm getting a Blu-Ray and just wanted to know what anybody thinks!

  2. Yes, total sweetness!!!!  Any high def DVD or blueray image is a huge improvement from DVD.

  3. Yes. An image on an ordinary TV screen is made up of small rectangles known as "pixels." The more pixels, the sharper the picture. Standard non-HDTV sets have 480 lines of resolution, while HDTVs have 720 horizontal lines or up to 1080, which means HDTV sets have up to 6 times the sharpness of analog TVs.

    When you count the pixels.

    480P 480 X 640 = 307200

    1080P 1920 X 1080 = 2138400

    2138400 / 307200 = 6.9609375

    So the math is right

  5. Statistically yes, but you wouldn't see that much of a difference on a smaller screen. The bigger the screen and the closer you get to it, the more difference you will see. Even a 60 inch from across the room may not look much different.
