Does BlueCross BlueShield cover an HSG (hysterosalpingogram)?

I had one in October 2006 but had different insurance that didn't cover it. I got pregnant that month BTW thanks to it (our daughter is 13 months now). We are now trying to conceive our second child and was wondering if our new insurance will cover the test if we need it again. Thanks!

  1. Every plan is different. Call the number on your insurance card and speak with them. They will be able to tell you what is covered and what isn't.

  2. Each persons plan is different.. You need to call the number on the back of your insurance card.

  3. No, actually I don't think it does. I was on Anthem until last month and my OB said that it would not be covered. But you really do need to call them and find out. If it's listed as a diagnostic test, for example if they're trying to find out if you've got endometriosis, then it will use a different code than if they list it as infertility. Call the doctor and get the appropriate code for an HSG and then call Anthem. Having said all of that, if you were recently pregnant, there is very little chance of you having blocked tubes, especially as your last HSG will have given them a 'spring clean' anyway.
