Does Breaking A Wood Board Hurt Your Hand?

I am in karate, and to get my first advancement i have to break a piece of wood with my hand! I am afraid I will break my hand and hurt? I wanna know if it hurts and how to break it. Easy 10 points

It shouldn't hurt if you do it right.  It didn't hurt me when I had to do it for tae kwon do.  Just do it exactly how your instructor teaches you to do it and you should be fine!

Its all about discipline, control and technique.  you can end up hurting yourself while breaking a ... oh i dunno.... a pen for example..  Its a matter of "know how".
