I don't mean "do they have the ability to test out of a language requirement." because I don't. I mean, will they make me take one, or take a test proving I know a language, or will they let the language requirement slide?

  1. Brown has no requirements for anything. In fact, not only can you take whatever you want but you can take every class pass/fail.

  2. You can probably check on each school's website. However, this may depend on your major. Different majors might have different language requirements. The best thing to do is to contact each school's admissions department.

    Brown: 401 863-2378

    Johns Hopkins: 410-516-8171

    Hope this helps!

  3. For Hopkins, there's no language requirement, unless of course you plan on majoring  in something that requires you to know/learn a language.  But the point is, if you don't want to take or continue taking a language, you don't have to.  You CAN take a foreign language test to prove you are proficient and get credit, even if you don't take any language classes at the university.

But no, you don't have to test out of language, take a language, or do anything else with a language you don't really want to do.  :)
