Does Canada Dry ginger ale really have ginger in it?

So... I bought some ginger ale to settle my stomach, but I can't find anything about ginger in the ingredients.

They are:

carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, NATURAL FLAVORS, sodium benzoate, caramal color.

Do you think ginger falls in the category of natural flavors? Or is there really no ginger in Canada Dry ginger ale?

  1. Actually- they can call it what ever they want- even ginger ale, and not contain ginger. What they can not do- is list on the ingredients "ginger" unless there truly is ginger in it. As far as dr's and mom's- ginger is a healer, but they want you to drink it for the warm carbonation- not the ginger. Back in the day, you would drink tonic- and have a ginger compress made of grated ginger boiled with cheese cloth. But no "ginger ale", that came later, and for the aformentioned bubbles. As for the "natural flavors" yes, thats where they "could" have ginger...but well never truly know- as there is no regulations holding them to anything under "natural flavors". Reality- Im sure there is some, but not much at all. Ginger has a very strong taste- so Canada Dry knows better then to put much if any real ginger in their drink. Try a REAL ginger ale- like Grown Up Soda or Blenheim. Then you will realize the LACK of real ginger in Canada Dry. But hey- I love the stuff!!

  2. Ginger ale commonly contains ginger, sugar and carbonated water. Ginger content is often listed on labels in a general natural aroma or natural flavoring statement, to preserve secrecy of the complex proprietary mix of spices, fruits and other flavors used. Lemon, lime and cane sugar are the most common of ingredients. Pineapple and honey are also occasional ingredients.

Canada Dry makes what is known as dry ginger ale. The other type is Golden Ginger Ale

  3. ginger problly falls under the natural flavors category. there has to be ginger in ginger ale, or else it would be called something else.

some doctors tell their patients to drink ginger ale for stomach ailments, because ginger can be used as a medicinal treatment. therefore, there kinda has to be ginger in ginger ale.

i might be wrong, but that's just the way i see it...

  4. Sort of. They extract the chemical compounds that give ginger its taste and aroma...from ginger! I´d be more worried about the sodium benzoate!
