Does Canon Rebel XT record videos?

Question

This is probably a really stupid question but I want to get a Canon Rebel XT so I can take really awesome photos, but I also want to record videos like little short films.

I'm wondering if Canon Rebel XT does both, or is it just for taking pictures?

And I am kind of going iffy about getting a camcorder or a camera. If anybody knows what kind of camcorder has good quality and take good pictures, please I need your advice!

Nope.

Digital cameras are for taking picture.

Digital camcorders are for taking videos.

None of the Canon EOS cameras record video.  You'd need to get another type (not DSLR) camera for that.

Ditto on most of what has been said. There are no current dSLRs at any price that record video yet.

if the new Nikon D90 leaked info is corrrect will be the first dSLR to take video. However it could still be months away, and who knows what the price will be.

No DSLR takes videos.

A camera does not take the best videos (point & shoot cameras), and camcorders do not take the best pictures.   If you want awesome pictures, you would need a DSLR like the XT.  

I don't know what camcorders are available right now.   You could go to Best Buy or a big store like that and see what they have and get some advice from a salesperson.  

If I had to choose between the two, I would definitely get the camera.   You will use it a lot more than a camcorder.  And be able to see what you've taken a lot easier.

Oh, you would take a lot of videos at first, because it would be a novelty, but the excitement soon wears off, and you would wish you had gotten the camera instead.  Of course, if you can afford both, that would be ideal!

Canon XTs do not have movie mode. If you want to shoot video/films, you want to get a digital video cam with 3CCD. Invest on a good video cam, if you are going to be doing short movies. It cost close to an XT anyway.
