Question:

Does Champus cover deductibles and copays when covered by another insurance?

I am eligible for Champus because my deceased husband was retired from the military. At the time of his death, I did not need Champus. I am now retired and finding copays and deductibles under retirement insurance to be a burden. Will Champus cover any or all of this?

  1. You should check at this web site for answers to your

questions.  But it is called TRICARE now instead of

CHAMPUS.  The TRICARE program depends upon

your age and the type of plan you are enrolled in.

If you have not remarried, then maybe you want to

go to the nearest military installation and talk to

the TRICARE coordinator for more information.

Be sure to take your military ID card.

  2. Champus (now TRICARE) will cover a portion of it, but it is secondary payer to your private insurance (and Medicare if applicable).  You will still have to satisfy the annual TRICARE deductible before it kicks in.

  3. I think they will, although I'm not really sure. Your best bet is to talk to the Survivor Benefits Office at your nearest base. They'll know the answer, and if you qualify for benefits, they can tell you how to apply. If you don't know where the nearest base is, call your local recruiter and ask.

I hope this works out for you.
