I am possibily moving to Cheongju, Korea with my family but don't know a lot about the city. Are there Western amenities such as restaurants, shopping centers, grocery stores, and other things that would make us feel more at "home"?

  1. Allrighty!! This is my question....since I lived in Cheongju for five years!

Cheongju is nothing like America or Canada.  I chose it personally cuz it was a more pure Korean experience and I studied the Korean language for that length of time.

Still you can definitely enjoy yourself for a year.

For restaurants, you have pizza hut, dominoes, McDonalds, KFC, Subway.....maybe a bit more than that.

Downtown, "Karupe" grocery store has a western products section.  It's a small and pricey selection.

MOst other grocery stores don't have our stuff.  But you can enjoy inexpensive chicken and pork is quite reasonable.

The movie theatres are a god send.  Downtown: "Jeunesse" and in Kakyong-dong neighborhood is the big "LotteMart" Complex.  It's where the Fast Bus Terminal is.

There is a few Dunkin Donuts now and Baskin Robins.

There's not really a lot for kids.  But there is a little amusement park on edge of town called "Dreamland" and kind of a Science Centre there too.

Now I remember, the Arts Centre is a fun place to hangout.  It has a swimming pool and a rolling skating place too, as well as basket ball hoops and outdoor stages.

Feel free to message me if you have more questions.  I have many job connections too if you're interested.  I even had my own school in Cheongju.
