China's currency is dirt cheap. So does that mean if an American goes over there, they can live like a king?

  1. I don't think so.

The exchange rate is about 6.8 to 1.  (6 yuan to 1 dollar) and it is not that cheap for American to travel there.

  2. China is still cheap for tourists, but cost is rising, and rising.

  3. You really had a nice dream.

  4. I think it's a misconception that China's currency is "dirt cheap". Actually, the yuan is rising in value, while the American dollar is falling, so I suppose in that regard, the sooner you go to China, the better the exchange rates will be (providing the trends both continue).

Things in China are cheap, but you also have to pay for nearly everything. Little expenses, like snacks and water, can creep up on you if you have the attitude that their currency has no value.

I suppose for a tourist it's relatively cheap, but a lot of tourist merchandise, especially books, are not really that much cheaper. Also, electronics are typically MORE expensive in China than in America.

  5. Hahah, you actually believe the stupid media.

Once you pay a visit, you would know.  Americans better stay home.  China is too expensive for Americans.  European might think it is cheap.  But American can't really afford many things in China.
