Does China arrest and beat and torture Olympic competitors who fail to get a Gold Medal?

China has a long history of human rights abuse. Just because China is hosting the Olympics this year does not mean that they are well and golden in the human rights arena. They have a LONG way to go.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE CHINESE GYMNASTS WHO WILL BE ARRESTED FOR NOT WINNING A MEDAL. THAT IS THE THANKS THEY GET FOR COMPETING FOR THEIR COUNTRY.

  1. I should hope not.

You say "your heart goes out to the chinese gymnasts who will be arrested..."  where did you hear they would be arrested?  Do you have proof because if not, this is how rumors get started.

  2. Just one small problem. I don't think there are any Chinese gymnasts who didn't win a medal, unlike their US counterparts. ROFL!

  3. Kevindon just showed the world just how stupid and "judgmental" foreigners are.

  4. Where is your evidence that this does actually occur? You are making a statement of fact.Obviously you are another disgruntled american not satisfied with your countries medal tally and now feels that it is necessary to lie about what happens to Chinese who fail to win.You are beneath contempt.

Edit.......The only reason that you are at the top of this page is because scum rises.

  5. They only take away their ipod, xbox and don't let them watch cartoons forever. The horror~

  6. Well, We don't know what's really going on over there.. So I don't know if they are going to torture their failed athletes

  7. We probably will never know for sure and rumors are total BS!

  8. You are the ones that make the rest of us look bad. Shame shame shame shame shame.....

  9. -Start quote-

Disclaimer: There is no proof that China does this. Do not start any rumors. Thanks for your cooperation.

    -end quote-

You are actually starting a rumor by implying it. You should delete the question instead of trying to save you a$$ by a disclaimer.

  10. USA has about 200 years of history and over 150 years of depressing black and native people.

  11. This fellow must be an alien from other star with IQ less than a worm, he even doesn't know where the earth is located, let alone a country called China in earth.......haaaaa......

  12. Actually, Chinese government offers 1 million yuan(200K US dollars) to any athletes who can win a gold medal, while US only offers around 30K dollars, you Americans are sooooooo ignorant, can your economy even hold up for a week without Asians and Jews?

  13. You make Americans look dumb

  14. sigh.

  15. China doesn't do that. they're oppresive but not retarded. not even n**i Germany tortured its athletes. Athletes, regardless of whether they win or not, are national heroes. the gov't knows that and they also know the athletes are friends of the people too and they help the gov't keep a connection with the people. the only nation i can think of that tortured athletes that didn't perform well was Iraq during the Saddam Hussein years.

  16. i sure hope so

  17. The Chinese government is not that crazy to punish athletes for not winning gold medals, especially after the fact that China won the largest number of gold medals in this olympics.

I feel the only people Chinese government gives a hard time to are the ones who raise their voices against Chinese government or those who try to show some kind of protest or disagreement

As long as the person is not raising voice or showing protest against the government he/she is left alone.

  18. I know of one male Chinese gymnast who did not get a gold in 2004, who quitted from the gymnastic team and becomes a multi-millionaire now.  Many, many others are successful, either in glamour industry, or in the HongKong movies industry.

Human rights issue is very subjective issue - dissenters/troublemakers are jailed, just like in the USA.  But USA deliberately kicks up a fuss, without looking at its own Guatanamo Bay where human rights are totally denied.

For anyone who had visited China, China is a totally free country - as long as you are not a trouble-maker or saboteur or committing treason.  I believe that the same laws apply to almost all the countries in the world.  In my own country, we had numerous cases of such people who were funded and instigated by Western organisations to publicly damage our human rights record, and such trouble-makers were given asylum by Western nations.

  19. I don't believe China does that. However, North Korea is said to have punished athletes who do not medal. It's easy to associate NK and China's actions since they're both police-states. However, I'm sure some athletes do go under public scrutiny for failing China's expectations. Ex: Liu Xiang.

By the way, I find it disappointing that while we live in a society where we're taught not to generalize, some people have pointed out that the person who asked this question represents the views of Americans as a whole--a faulty argument.

  20. Hope they don't

    but they are communist..

  21. quote "China has a long history of human rights abuse."

Long history?  How long?  Before American Civil War which ended slavery of blacks?  Before Civil Rights Act in 1964?

I can tell.  You have a long history of reading biased China-bashing propaganda.

  22. I hope the Chinese athletes are treated okay.
