  1. Oh I'm sure they will figure out a way to say it does.

  2. Cigarettes have no effect upon solar cycles.  Solar cycles are the driving force of climate change.  Cigarettes thus have no effect upon the climate or the weather.

  3. Yes..were also forgetting all the gases we cant see coming from it polluting our lungs...and the earth i guess

  4. yes, but so does breathing.  and you carbon hog... you've been breathing non-stop your entire life.

you should try holding your breath for 20 seconds between breaths do reduce your carbon emissions.

in fact, we should make it law.  no more than 3 breaths per second, or you go to jail.

  5. yeah it does.

  6. Yes.  It takes a lot of energy to make the health care products and equipment that smoking leads to.

  7. It burns a biomass that pulled the carbon out of the air in the first place, but arguments to that effect neglect the land use change of maintaining tobacco fields instead of forest, and the inefficiency of growing the tobacco and converting it into a cigarette (including manufacturing, marketing, transportation, etc).

The same flaws in using a "closed cycle" argument to justify tobacco apply to the "humans only exhale CO2 that plants once pulled out of the air" argument.  That original CO2 in the air didn't replace forests with crops, raise methane-emitting cattle, etc.  Sure, those costs can be factored into the equation elsewhere, but that only obscures the important influence of population growth.  Human impact scales with the number of humans, pure and simple.

  8. Yes form the green house gases given off by the person smoking and the gases given off from the crematorium after the smokers early demise.

  9. yes, it does.. It's CO2 plus other harmful gases.. It also contributes to pollution.

no matter how skeptics say there is no global warming, there actually is.. and duh, climate change is just another term for global warming!

  10. yes Sir Walter Raligh's lungs were shot to pieces

  11. NO!

It is burning a biomass. This biomass contains carbon taken by the plant from the atmosphere and returning it to the atmosphere. Fossil fuels are  not involved in the atmospheric carbon cycle

Don't let stupid answers fool you. Most people here want you to believe their stance but do not even understand the difference between long (geologic) carbon cycle and short (biosphere) carbon cycle.

  12. Is global warming even real?

It takes thousands of years to accurately map weather patterns, but we have only recorded them for a couple of hundred years with any degree of accuracy.  I think the whole thing is a storm in a teacup..

  13. Since global warming doesn't exist and 30,000 scientists also agree with me and reject global warming, I think it's safe to say it is actually climate change. So that answers your question. No.

Just for fun, I'd like to put this comment to shame:

"No, smoking actually helps global warming. People who smoke die younger and hence consume less energy over their life than a non-smoker would."

If you looked up death stats for the entire world, more people die because of other causes like heart disease. Also, the population of the world is constantly rising, so that also disproves (if global warming were even true) your theory.

  14. Cigarettes are made from tobacco.  Tobacco gets its substance from minerals in the ground and CO2 in the air with sunlight.  When a smoker burns the tobacco he is releasing the carbon back into the atmosphere as CO2 and some soot.  It is neutral and doesn't contribute to adding CO2 to the air.  I don't think adding CO2 to the air is of much consequence anyway.

  15. Technically breathing can contribute to global warming......everytime you exhale you exhale co2......so please......don't let them start blaming us smokers for something else!

  16. No, smoking actually helps global warming. People who smoke die younger and hence consume less energy over their life than a non-smoker would.

  17. Of course. In the production of the cigarettes, transporting them to shops, smoking them, heavy smokers using cars more 'cause now they get out of breathe walking...

  18. yep.

  19. yes because it is nicotine, carbon monoxide witch causes all kind of bad things to happen to youre life.

  20. Cigarette smoke releases toxins into the air, and about 4000 chemical agents including more than 60 carcinogens. It contains carbon monoxide, arsenic, and lead. However, even if you have smoked all your life, it won't make a difference to global warming. But lots of people have smoked for many years, and the sheer number of those people has made a slight impact on global warming. However if you, as an individual, smoke or whatever, that's fine. Even if you do it for the rest of your life, I promise you it will not make an impact on the ozone layer.

  21. Are you sending this massage to someone closer to you to read?

  22. It contributes more to localized pollution than to global warming.

  23. About as much as the match that lit it does in heating up the earth

    .. ..

Or putting a drop of food coloring in an Olympic size swimming pool

    .. . .

  24. Most of those who have answered so far appear to be smokers and naturally they want to paint a rosy picture of irrelevancy of smoking and global warming.  CO2 release and  passive smoking dangers that affects those who do not smoke are the burning social problems in the world today. Particularly the population in the developing world that is influenced by the western culture.

Anything that burns releases CO2 and if we calculate the amount of CO2 that is being released by billions of match sticks and the lighted cigarettes and also the amount of CO2 exhaled by the abnoxious smokers at this minute throughout the world then the value of CO2 can be calculated.

Tobacco is not a necessity for sustenance of life like food. It is only a HABIT.  If we remove H from HABIT, A BIT remains, if we remove A, then BIT remains, if we remove B, then IT remains and if I (who is responsible for this habit) is removed, then T automatically gets Terminated.

Health authorities have scientifically proved that one puff of tobacco smoke that contains 4000 chemicals can damage our DNA and result in creation of carcinogen cell that destroys the healthy cells and grows uncontrollably, resulting in a painful death of the person who smokes. Every 8th second a person is dying due to tobacco related diseases; such deaths are almost half of all other deaths put together.

This is worse than global warming.

If WHO and other world organisations are interested in eradication of polio, then why are they allowing tobacco related deaths to increase?  Double standards, tobacco lobby, economic considerations???

Do not expect the government to cure your self-earned cancer.  They are there only to pinch the "baby and sing lullaby" and ultimately to put the baby in the coffin.

Paradoxically, governments have proved their incompetence in providing a few pot full of drinking water to the people in developing world but have the arrogance and audocity to ensure that the tobacco products are available in every nook and corner of the world.

"Tobacco Kills" should become people campaign to save the gullibles, from painful death. Tobacco manufacturers and policy makers including WHO are accomplices in mass murders of innocent people who are lured into taking to smoking etc., by telling lethal lies, half-truths, hiding the dangers of smoking, etc.

Now, add to this the latest danger of emission of CO2 and carbon monoxide by the burning cigarette and its capacity to pollute the air that is breathed by all those who does not smoke.  If a smoker has a right to smoke tobacco products and spew CO2, then the non-smoker has an equal right for inhaling clean air containing oxygen.  Likewise, why the non-smokers are being made to pay for research and development of drugs for curing cancer that is caused due to smoking of tobacco products?   Send your answers to: vkumar_m@yahoo.com - Convener, "Tobacco Kills" schoolastic awareness programme, Mysore, India.

  25. Every day there is a new concensus about the causes of global warming.  They've proven that eating ice cream or apple pie causes it.  Walking causes it.  Eating meat causes it.  Passing gas causes it.  Baseball causes it.  I'm afraid one of these days there'll be another 'no-debate' consensus saying breathing causes it.

I can't believe how friggin' mixed up some people are!

  26. Yes. The smoke can lead to pollution, and people that make the cigarettes use material that could not have been used if they weren't making cigarettes.

  27. :) i just learned about this in school!
