Does Cityscape have any chance to bounce back?
A lot of racing experts have started pointing fingers at Cityscape, after his two terrible defeats lately. It is totally unfair to take everything away from Roger Charlton’s talented runner, who has a number of big titles to his credit.
So, one should not overlook the class he possesses. The Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes (British Champions Series) is going to be Cityscape’s next assignment, scheduled to take place at York on Wednesday, August 22nd.
Despite the fact that the 6-year-old was not impressive in the recent appearances, one should not rule him out of the equation. Owned by Khalid Abdulla, he kicked off his 2012 campaign with a fantastic act.
The spectators at Meydan saw him producing a huge upset in the Dubai Duty Free Sponsored By Dubai Duty Free at the end of March. No one was expecting the horse to enthral against a star-studded line-up in the Group 1 event, but he shocked everyone with a
fabulous show.
After tracking the leaders at the outset, the 8-1 chance ran on well to secure a comfortable success. He defeated Mutahadee by four and a quarter lengths to bag the first prize worth £1,935,483.87.
After nabbing such a classy win, the son of Selkirk completely lost his direction. In the Group 1 BMW Champions Mile at Sha Tin, he finished 10th behind Xtension.
After facing plenty of embarrassment at Honk Kong, the Juddmonte Farms Ltd-bred managed to raise his game to some extent, but could only grab the fourth spot in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse (British Champions Series) at Sandown on July 7th.
Although it was almost impossible for him to finish among top-3, he ran well in patches. A reasonable effort would have given him a lot of confidence. There is no doubt about his extraordinary skills, and the only thing he needs to spark is a slice of luck.
The maverick horse has tasted success on six occasions, including four graded wins. He has the potential, and holds an obvious chance of putting his journey back on the winning ways in the upcoming big battle. The critics should give him another chance to
prove his mettle before opening fire at him.
