I grew up in the heyday of FM when songs about drugs were a frequent part of the radio -- Boston "Smokin," Skynard, "The Needle and the Spoon," Steely Dan, "Kid Charlemagne," etc. I don't hear these much anymore, or other explicit lyrical content on the "classic rock" stations. Does Clear Channel Communications censor songs about drugs?

  1. Clear Channel and Walmart are both EVIL corporations, both are pro censorship.

  2. They're not explicitly censored; for one thing, contrary to common perceptions, Clear Channel does not directly manage the play lists of every station.  However, they do have lists of 'not recommended' songs; this does not mean explicitly prohibited, but given the trepidation of your typical corporate drone, the effect is similar.  Clear Channel *does* have a standing policy of editing out explicit drug references in songs played on its stations; this might make certain pieces sound so odd, nobody wants to listen to them.
