  1. Not sure I understand the question.  If you mean which is best to use first then the answer is the combivent.  Flovent is a steroid inhaler and will take hours/days to really kick in.  Combivent is a combination of albuterol and ipratropium.  Both these work fairly fast-albuterol that fastest of the two.  Therefore, using combivent first helps open you up for later use of the slower acting agent-Flovent.


  2. Despite the similarity in names, they're completely different types of medication. Combivent is two bronchodilators, one an adrenergic that acts quickly and the other a cholinergic that works not so quickly. Flovent is a steroid which is even slower still. If you have mild disease, it would be normal to try the bronchodilators first, and add the steroid if needed

    Or if you're talking about which to puff first, having already been prescribed both, use the Combivent first, then the Flovent, then wash your mouth out. That limits the risk of the steroid causing thrush.

  3. Combivent' s patent will expire on June 2015 and Flovent HFA's on December 2012.
