YES!!! I totally think that Curlin has what it takes! I believe we have another Barbaro on our hands! ♥

But just keep your hopes up and believe that the drougt of the Triple Crown will end this year of 2007.

Keep going Curlin! I know you can do it! With the amazing wins you have already, I know you have just enough heart as Barbaro... well maybe not so much. lol

So your thoughts?

  1. Yes, he went from maiden to stakes, from sprint to route, from speedball to closer and all without a hitch. I think he will win the Ky Derby and has a chance to win the triple crown because he is litely raced.

  2. yeah, go Curlin, Street sense, tiago, and nobizlikeshowbiz!!!

  3. The thing you have to worry the most about is the start.  If Curlin is placed near the pace, but not in the lead early on, it's all just a matter of not being in the way of the speed horses when they start to fall back.  If Curlin does that, he should win easily.  But remember, many great horses never ran well at Churchill.

  4. Another Barbaro?  So the horse is going to die?  Wow.  Curlin has not run in a 20 horse field.  Let's see what post he gets and if there is any speed inside of him.  I don't see a triple crown winner this year.  I do see a long shot taking the derby.

  5. I think Curlin is a nice animal...should do well in the triple crown races if he stays sound...but not sold on him being a triple crown winner...was actually pretty surprised at a few of the horses that did win the first two and had a shot in the Belmont the last 20 years...just hoping i can find the right trifecta and superfecta combinations for the derby...(just like every day I go out to the track)...I know youre rooting for him Melissa...good luck! and good luck to all the bettors...

  6. There are a few horses that "what it takes".

Much of it will depend on post position.  Weather may also play a factor.

I like Curlin, Scat Daddy, and Street Sense.

No horse is this field is as talented as Barbaro was last year!!

  7. You'be been all over Curlin and you just may have a Derby winner. If he is in the Derby and doesn't draw into the second gate, he will be one of my plays in the Oaks-Derby Double (I key all on Friday and then play probably 5-6 in the Derby Field). CURLIN DEPARTS FOR KENTUCKY DERBY ENGAGEMENT

A Jumbo 747 carrying Arkansas Derby winner Curlin, and six other thoroughbreds, departed Hot Springs Memorial Field at 10:25 a.m. Monday, and arrived safely in Louisville, Ky., an hour later.

Curlin then was vanned to Keeneland Racetrack in Lexington, Ky., to begin his final preparations for the Kentucky Derby to be run on May 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville.

“I’m looking at Curlin in his stall right now,” assistant trainer Scott Blasi said from Keeneland, “and he’s doing fine. And he told me to thank the folks in Arkansas for their hospitality and good wishes.”

On the flight with Curlin, now the consensus favorite for the Kentucky Derby on the strength of his record-breaking Arkansas Derby victory on Saturday, were Storm in May, Deadly Dealer and Delightful Kiss -- the second, third and fourth finishers, respectively, in the Oaklawn Park headliner.

The other equine passengers were Eyes on Eddy, Mach Ride and Wellofaprize, all of whom raced in stakes during Oaklawn’s famed Racing Festival of the South.

Oaklawn’s 56-day meet, reduced to 52 because of a four-day cancellation in February, concluded on Derby Day Saturday, and the backstretch was virtually deserted by Monday morning when the two vans carrying the seven horses to the airport departed Oaklawn.

Storm in May will join Curlin in the Kentucky Derby, while Delightful Kiss and Deadly Dealer will pursue other stakes opportunities.

Watching Curlin being walked onto the plane, Pete Anderson, the ex-jockey and now the trainer of Delightful Kiss, watched with admiration.

“Curlin has run only three times,” Anderson said, “so obviously he still has a lot to prove. But as I look at him, I’m thinking Secretariat and Swaps.” Curlin, like Secretariat and Swaps, is a strapping chestnut.

The jumbo aircraft originated at Ontario, Cal., and, after dropping its equine passengers off in Louisville, moved on to Ocala, Fla
