Does DTV mean I wil get HDTV?

When all TV boardcasting switches over to DTV in 2009 will I be able to get HDTV just because I have a HD television?

  1. Maybe.

    Does your HD television have an ATSC tuner?  Are you capable of receiving the broadcast stations via outdoor antenna?  Do you know if the stations you receive plan to or are already broadcasting in HD?

    If yes to all of those then yes you will get HD.

  2. This is a common confusion among people. Digital Tv DOES NOT mean High Definition. While High definition is a digital source, not ALL digital transmissions are in High Definition. That being said, if you have an HD television, you should already be able to pickup OTA (over the air) Local HD channels (Given that you have an ATSC Tuner equipped HDTV and an antenna as well) If you want a larger lineup of HD channels, you need to subscribe for HD service from your cable or satellite provider. Typically, Cable will do this for no additional charge, while satellite charges you $10-20 extra  a month.
