  1. It can be tough to travel with an infant, especially since bottles of premixed formula are not allowed on the plane. First question, the answer is yes the airline does need to know if you'll bring your infant, even if you plan to hold her in your arms rather than paying for a seat.

Get the information from the airline regarding the restrictions on baby food and liquids. It's probably better to try to talk to a person rather than accessing a website. You can bring two items. These can be a diaper bag and a piece of luggage, but that means you shouldn't bring a purse. Best bet is to use a very stylish diaper bag as a purse, too. Bring the same things you'd take along with you on any trip of more than an hour. Diapers, wipes, powdered formula (ask for bottled water from the hostess), a change of clothing, bibs, etc.

If you tell the airline, they'll provide you with bottled water for the formula mixing and can even heat it for you. Get her started with the powdered version of her formula a few days in advance to avoid digestive upsets.

Give the baby an appropriate dose of Tylenol 1/2 hour before the flight to help alleviate the sometimes painful earaches caused by takeoff and landing. It helps to give her a pacifier or the bottle during those times, too. Ask your pediatrician about the dosage.

  2. You absolutely have to let them know.  Even though you don't have to pay for her, they have to account for her.  They need to know, sooner rather than later.  You are allowed to check a car seat for her, and usually they are good about bringing an extra carry on when you are traveling with an infant, but again you need to check with the airline.  They will tell you what you can bring.

  3. Yes, they need to know. And not that day.

I don't know about Delta but I know on some airlines you simply cannot book lap babies online.

You ARE permitted to bring liquid formula, but I don't think it's worth the hassle. Bring powder, and mix when needed.

These questions get asked frequently so for more details you may want to search this category (or of course ask Delta or see TSA website.)

  4. its best to get a early flight theyll be less people and the baby wont be to fussy and bring toys

  5. if she's sitting in your lap and doesn't have her own ticket, you have to let delta know when you check in, or at the very latest when you get to the terminal desk.

  6. Yes you do need to advise the airline that you are bringing an infant.  They can/will deny you boarding if you do not advise them.  You can also ask them the requirements regarding things you can and can not bring with you.
