I have been vegetarian for about a month, and now the smell of meat, chicken and fish make me queasy. Is this common with going vegetarian/vegan?

  1. Since becoming a vegan, the sight and smell of meat does make me nauseous.

I think it's because I am not used to seeing and smelling it anymore....

When I was over to my mother's the other day, she was preparing a whole chicken to boil on the stove. The instant she took it out of the package, I could smell it. I thought the stench was very noticeable. It smelled like death (if that's possible). Then she turned it upside down and some pinkish liquid dripped out of the neck hole and I thought I was going to hurl.

I try to stay away from raw meat at all costs.

  2. The smell of raw meat is disgusting (like I can't walk by the butcher section of the grocery store) but the smell of cooking meat has never really bothered me much.  Certain things do, like driving by a KFC, but that's a really distinct smell.

  3. yea its normal..yer body should not be subjected to such a delicasy such as meat

  4. I'm a med student so, I'm used to meat smells.

BTW: humans smell like pork - go figure :-/

    I'm glad I'm a veggie.

  5. i guess it's normal.

  6. no, not for me. i stopped eating meat this year but i still indulge in gravy cooked with meat.

  7. The smell is not bad, for me it is the cutting of chicken, and other people eating it that really grosses me out.

  8. Yes, especially the smell of chicken...disgusting.

  9. Yes it does make me sick.

Chicken still smells good to me for the most part but anything else makes me feel yucky.  Luckily when my meat eating bf cooks meat it isn't very often and he uses a lot of spices to cover the smell and he lights an incense or something for me.

  10. Different people have different reactions to the smell of meat once they become a vegetarian.  It's good that you don't like the smell.  That will make it easier for you.

I don't like the smell either.  It makes me think of the suffering and greed that is involved in the meat industry.

  11. prob

  12. i don't get sick from the smell of cooked meat (generally)...

but the smell of RAW meat.......goodness, that makes me want to throw up.  hence the reason i refuse to cook meat for my hubby.

there are times when the smell of cooked meat makes me a bit queasy, but more often than not it's the smell of fish and seafood.

what DOES make me sick is looking at meat!!  i don't want to see someone's steak dripping blood on their plate.  that makes me want to vomit........so i try not to look at other people's food very much =P

  13. No, it still smells good to me after 6 years vegan

  14. That happend to me too. I hate the smell! And well fish - it smells like.. fish; thats all I can say. Red meat is the WORST!

  15. Even though I'm not a vegetarian the smell of meat makes me terribly sick. My sis kim is a vegan but she couldn't stand the smell of meat at first, but she got used to it eventually.

  16. Occasionally...

  17. I never liked the smell of meat, even back when I ate it. One of the main reasons I gave it up 30+ years ago is I never liked the taste either.

  18. I do not find this the case, but the thought of what it had been and what the animal had been treated like does. And after watching http://meat.org/ drinking milk made me feel like I was drinking blood! (really)
