Question:

Does Dollar General help pay for college?

My niece just started a job with Dollar General and my brother told my mom that if she worked there for 3 months that Dollar General would help her out with college. I find this very hard to believe. My niece doesn't hold a job for very long and every time she gets a new job, it seems like there is always extraordinary about the job.

  1. hhahaha, maybe they'll contribute, a dollar ;D

naw, but seriously, i doubt it, that doesn't seem to make sense.

  2. Nice people around here.

The answer is "yes", but to be more honest, really only "maybe".

Dollar General does have a tuition reimbursement program, but I wasn't able to determine whether the program is offered as a job perk to every employee, or just employees above a certain job level. A quick search turns up plenty of online job postings for higher-level Dollar General positions that promise tuition reimbursement, but Dollar General doesn't advertise their store clerk positions online - only openings in management and at corporate and regional headquarters.

That doesn't mean that the tuition reimbursement program isn't available to non-management employees who work in the stores, but I can't tell you for certain.

Let's hope your niece sticks around at Dollar General for a while, so she can take advantage of all of the benefits that are available to her!

    I hope that helped!

  3. Usually, programs like that are only availible to people over a certain position and have to be full time employees.  There is also a minimum amount of time the person has to be employed for, but three months does sound fantastical.  I believe it's usually a year or more.
