  1. No but private schools, uni and tafe do

  2. you do not have to pay fees for government funded education.  parents are requested to make a voluntary contribution but it is not compulsory.

  3. Public Education - No since it's government-funded but you are encouraged to pay for what's called 'Contribution Fees'. This may be different if you're not a local.

    Catholic Schools - Yes.

    Private/Independent Schools - Yes.

    Uni and TAFE - Yes.

  4. Bachelor of Science - University of NSW - $12,500 per year

(and its not even the most expensive! Combined degrees in medicine/law/science are most expensive)

1 semester boarding at Cranbook used to be $10,000 but now I think its more like $12,500 = $25,000/year.

Also I must point out that while public schools ask for "voluntary contributions", does anyone know what happens when you don't "voluntarily" pay? They refuse to supply you with materials (eg paint for art, materials for sewing, ingredients for cooking etc) and make you do all the theory work with no practical. Trust me, been there done that. (and when you run out of theory work, they make you write the school rules)

When I was in my senior years, living away from home, struggling to survive on $300 a fortnight, I told the school public education is supposed to be free and they can go jump with their "voluntary contributions" and so they just didn't give me any materials... so NO ITS NOT FREE!!! (and yes they WERE aware of my financial situation, they do not care)

Also my younger sister is in high school and the fees increase and increase every year... what ever happened to government funding??

Basically, if you want a GOOD education you will end up paying alot for it. Government education may be cheap but is very substandard...

  5. i think it costs to go to all type of schools anywhere but maybe it doesnt cost as much as it does here, hope it helps

  6. it depends on whether you are an Australian or not.

Australians can go to a public school than has some outlays and they can go to private schools which they pay for.I have friends who just moved from the uk and they are paying to send their kids to school.  They told me they do not get it free

    Good luck

  7. simply -

public schools no, they can cost from 0 - 300 bucks.

private school yes, they can cost from like  $2000 - $6000 a term.

And what uni isnt exspensive aye, its like thousands were talking about with any uni.

  8. yes! IT COSTS!!!!!

i went to a public skool. in high school it was $55 a year, plus around $10 for some of the subjects.. but when i got into my senior yrs it was $70 and around 15 for biology and textiles. and if u didnt pay u wernt able to do any practicle activities, and to be able to graduate u must have paid the fees, otherwise they witheld ur report and wouldnt sign us out!

then there is the cost of uniform, lunch everyday, school supplies..etc

as for uni... its costing me $8000 a year. TAFE is a lot cheaper....about $1000 a year.

if u decide to go to a private college for tertiary education ur looking at aroun $15000 a year.

as for private skools... im not too sure about them.. but i think a few thousand a year. and their unforms r alot more expensive

  9. Public schools are supposed to be free or affordable. Many public schools are charging tuition but at a very low cost, others are free. But you still need uniforms, resources, books, etc..

Private schools cost from $2,000 up to $10,000 per year, boarding schools even more. Thats tuition alone, private schools uniform and other resources are always more expensive also.

    TAFE fee's - http://www.tafensw.edu.au/about/money.ht...

Uni fee's vary per subject, from around $750 up to $10,000 for medical masters and doctorate subjects. You do around 8 subjects per year over a 4-6 year degree.

  10. Public schols don't cost anything. You are asked to pay a voluntary fee, which is, unlike some poeple stated above, VOLUNTARY. Yes, they expect most people to pay, but if you explain your financial circumstances to the school, they won't make you. Or you can just not pay. Most of my friends didn't pay, and all they didn't get was a school badge. Big deal. They still got text books, materials and stuff for free. The uniforms cost a fair but, but you can get them cheap second hand, and money for excursions can be paid by the school if you explain your financial situation.

And despite this, public education in australia is as good as or better than private education. It has been shown in PROVEN STUDIES that students in public schools do just as well in the HSC (higher school certificate), and much better than private school students in university (a much lower drop out rate- private school kids are used to being spoon-fed the information, can't handle having to do stuff for themselves).

This is true for primary and secondary education, but tertiary education costs a fair bit, depending on what degree/course you want to do, although the price is subsidised by the government (they pay more than half the fee). You are able to get student loans though, (called HECS), where you pretty much don't get interest, and don't start paying it back until you earn $40,000 p.a.. The repayments increase with increasing salary.

  11. Certainly does Olly

People take loans out and pay them back when they get a job. Md or Chiro or Osteopath 6yrs study $$$$$.

No education in Australia is free. Even Primary Schooling, secondary high school costs. private even more expensive.
