Don't think it does, does it?

Any suggestions? Something traditional? Something that might reflect modern England?

First person to say 'burkha' gets a virtual slap...

  3. It dosn't. Some people think of Morris Dancers, but it isn't really.

It would have to be traditional, if there was to be one. I've never heard of a modern styled naional costume. They're always historical.

  4. Morris dancer costumes are quite fetching, & very traditional.

  5. Officially we dont have one: Maybe

    Morris Dancers

    Pearly Kings

    Beefeaters

    Household Cavalry

  6. England doesn't have its own costume unlike Wales and Scotland.

I like the Morris Dancers costume too

  7. Because the UK is geographically split into three, we don't have a national costume.

Each location have their own costume,  Scotland / Wales have their traditional and England is normally based on location.

For example, in London, the Pearly Kings/Queens, bowler hats, Northerners, are depicted wearing cloth-caps, and clogs or Minors gear,(which is based on the early 1800/1900's history), the regions of Norfolk etc, could be rural ie farmers, (smocks/beanie-hats)..

For a modern take...In England, I guess we're virtually all the same today, dress wise..but I'd go with the 'Pearly's' for authenticity, for the original English costume of our time.

    Caramac x

  8. I'm with stupid T-shirts pointing both ways.

  9. Well, there's the morris dancing outfits, ...

... and then there's what the 16-year old ladies wear in Manchester around 10 pm (it's very short, but it looks good).

  10. Straight away, the costumes that Morris dancers wear came to mind for me. I'd say that was traditional.

  11. I would say the Burka it seems we have too many muslims in this country and they are everywhere!

  12. No we don`t have a national costume, we don`t need one as we are recognised throughout the World... we have mug tattooed across our foreheads...lol

However if I were to choose one it would be a Union Jack knotted handkerchief on the head and sandals with socks he! he!

  13. shell suit

  14. Probably the Morris Dancers costume.   Breeches with bells circling the knees, funny hats, clogs and they also wave little hankies.  So sweet.

  15. The suit. It is plain but a lot of people were it world wide now . But it originates from England. It is modern. The fact that the rest of the world wear it shows what a practical piece of clothing it is. It is extensively use in the city & is regarded as the norm. The only trouble for England as with a lot of English traditions that are adopted is it dilutes England's identity.

  16. Prob the England Football Strip... or anything Union Jack... as that seems to be what alot of English Folk choose to wear whilst abroad to represent themselves!

Although you could dress as Brittania...

  17. I could really do with a virtual slap so im going to say........burkha.....

Edit; i enjoyed that slap TOO much !

  18. i don't think soooooooooo!!!!!!

  19. No modern dress unless it was a mini that shows your undies and a top that is made of the Union Jack other than that what about a dress like that worn by Nell Gywn?

  20. Burkha, lol!

  21. Ballet tights.

  22. Pearly king and queen, if you're a londoner. A flat cap and a ferret if you're a yorkshire chap.

  23. It actually has quite a lot. They're just more regional and stereotypical rather than for a whole country.

Think the stereotypical top hat n tails, the flat caps, etc etc

  24. shellsuit!
