I typically drive my car very easy and slow... but I have been driving on the interstate lately in heavy traffic. Sometimes I floor the car when merging on and the the tachometer jumps to the red line. This car is an automatic. Will this cause any damage to the car? Thanks

  1. Causes more wear and stress on the motor and othe rdrivetrain components.

Your better off still taking it easy. s***w others with merging on the interstate, that is why there is multiple lanes. You don't HAVE to be going the speedlimit when you hit the end of the on ramp. Besides, your using more fuel.

I never hit the end of the on ramp at full speed (unless on my bike). In my truck I'm rarely doing 50...

Take it easy on your car, it will last longer.

  2. prolonged operation at high rpms is in most cases not good for stock vehicles     however  when your rpms jump like thatis it because your transmission dropping into to low of a gear or is it slipping??

  3. well red line is on the edge and yes sooner or later it will but really only short burst of speeds like what your talking about is not so bad... you realy have to floor it to get it up to speed to merge anyways

  4. In the long run, more aggressive driving (like flooring it to redline) will wear away your engine components more quickly. However, if it is just a once in a while kind of thing, and you also properly maintain your vehicle, it really won't be a big deal.
