  1. GED is the high school equivalancy.

It is practically the same as a high school diploma.

To get a high school diploma, of course you will have to attend high school.

  2. Yes, GED = high school diploma. I know, because I was home schooled all my life and had to take the GED in order to apply to college. However, not all colleges require that you take the GED if you are a home schooled student. 3 years after I started college, my younger sister (also home schooled) got accepted to the same college without having to take the GED because they changed their admissions process for home schoolers (only using the ACT or SAT scores now).

  3. The answer that the last poster gave is a little bit too general.  These days you can get a COLLEGE education online where you don't even set foot inside a college.  And some of these people are making tons more money then those graduting ivy league schools like Harvard.  Heak an Indian just coming from India owning a motel/hotel is making tons more money then some Harvard graduates.  The fact of the matter is this:  yes it maybe looked down upon by many people but these are the same people who will not help you in life because they do not want to see others rise above them so they have to see they are always under them.  Read this on the GED: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GED This is their main point: Approximately 95% of colleges will accept GED graduates...see so do not think yourself as "lower" then a person with a high school degree.  As a matter of fact you are going at a faster rate of education then going through high school.  If you are old or young and coming to America at 15 or 16 years old take practice tests of the GED and see if you can pass.  If you can then bypass high school and go straight to college!  Why? Because you (male or female) are more mature then the average high school student.  DO NOT let anyone put you down! Conclusion:  A GED = HIGH SCHOOL no more no less

  4. yes it iz, nd it don't really matter if u got it in high skool or no, cuz a diploma is a diploma......no matter wat....!!!!!

  5. A GED does show that, for whatever reason, you were unable to finish high school.  I think it depends on what you do after you get the GED.  If you then go to college or university, and get a degree, the fact that you have a GED is going to make little if any difference later on.

  6. its like a HS diploma, but it shows you couldnt finish high school in most cases, or you are a homeschooler, both are looked down apon in society wetheer you like it or not, so your best bet is to get a life and got to real school.

    no.

  7. yes its like a high school diploma. I think they combine all subject together

  8. A GED is an equivalent.  It holds the same weight as a general (non college major) diploma (a 100 credit diploma not a 150 credit diploma).

Some homeschool programs award accredited diplomas through existing brick schools or by virtual of their accredation sources.

These are supposedly legal and hold weight, but I've never fully checked them out.

The Florida virtual school awards an actual floida dipoloma.

One has to separate education from the diploma

Most homeschool programs provide education.  If you did it right and retained you should be able to do well on the SAT test or a college entrance test.

Most people don't give much value to diplomas from DeVry or ITT Tech, but the fact remains you get an education there in the subjects, sometimes better than at a college.

I went to an electronics school and was taught by engineers who worked for Admiral and RCA

    I was taught electronics

The diploma I got, however, is not held in high esteem by employers nor are my studies transferable to college
