Does GST at restaurants need to be included in the menu?

Is it legal in Australia for a restaurant to give you a menu with prices listed and then a note at the bottom stating "GST not included in pricing?" You only find out the real cost when they present you with the bill at the end of the night.

  1. As all have said above it is illegal and they should be reported. This isn't America!


  2. No, that is not legal.  All advertised prices must include GST.  Report them to the authorities (I think the ATO) and this will get fixed.

  3. No - all quoted prices must include gst.

  4. That doesn't sound right to me - it should be GST inclusive in my opinion
