  1. Nope! I had a split and decayed tooth taken out two years ago and it was absolutely pain free. There was a slight sting when they injected the painkiller into my gum (if you're scared of needles you may be able to request valium or nitrous oxide), but I didn't feel anything from the extraction itself aside from slight pressure.

My tooth had a giant root and it took them an hour to get the last bit out. I started feeling a tiny bit of pain (just dull throbbing... sort of like a bruise) and they gave me another shot of painkiller. I didn't feel the shot this time since the painkiller from the first shot have not worn out completely. Trust me, the dentist will do everything s/he can to make sure you're comfortable - just don't be scared of letting them know if you're in any sort of discomfort.

  2. i've never had the procedure done, but i'm pretty sure keeping the split tooth would hurt much more than getting rid of it!

i'm pretty sure they'll numb you, or give you laughing gas or something of that nature, so i'm sure you won't feel pain during the surgery. but more than likely, you will feel some pain afterwords.

so be sure to ask the dentist what some good pain relievers would be to take after the procedure.

    goodluck!
