Does Goodwill industries have any religious association/agenda?

I have some clothes that I'm looking to get rid of. However, I want to find an organization that isn't tied to any (especially Christian) religion and focuses on actually helping people without pushing their dogma in the process. I've looked on the site for Goodwill Industries and it appears that their focus is on job placement for the homeless. It also seems that there isn't any religious attachment. Anybody know what the case really is?

  1. Goodwill has no religious affiliation:

Another place we've giving clothes to is Purple Heart, for the same reason.

  2. My church runs some stores like this.  They are called Deseret Industries.  They take loads and loads of clothes to countries that have had natural disasters.  They take them to places where children are desperately in need of clothes.  They do leave some in the stores that they offer at lower prices to help those of lower income.

The items donated go directly to those in need.  Nor do they push their Religion on anyone.  These programs are to help anyone in need of help.

We also have food storehouses that we ship out food where there have been natural disasters.  We ship out blankets, we ship out first aid kits.  We donate wheelchairs.

We have one of the greatest Humanitarian organizations in the world.

I am not sure if there are Deseret Industries in every town, but you could look up that name and see if there is.  They go by that name no matter what state they are in.

  3. I do not think Goodwill has a religious agenda.  That would be the Salvation Army. Goodwill will take your clothes and sell them in their stores.  My worry is what percentage of the profit actually ends up in the program. I personally like to donate my nicer things to the abuse shelter.  That way I know I am providing another woman with nice clothes to go to job interviews, to work, or just to feel good wearing.
