  1. Fyrom stands for Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia and it is the UN recognized name of our northern neighbors that refer to themselves as "Republic of Macedonia".

There is a long dispute now about the name of the ex-Yugoslav country, that comes from the fact that besides picking a name of a Greek region for their country (which by itself is no crime), they try to claim everything from that region as theirs, including it's history, and it's territory. In a sense they pretend to be something that they aren't and claim it as their own, they are impersonators.

It is similar for someone to pick the same name with you, and then come and claim anything, from your fortune, your job, even your wife and call you an impostor! Of course Greece can't tolerate that, and tried to stop this farce at it's roots, by making the country accept a name for themselves that distinguishes them from Greek Macedonia. Talks are currently under way in the UN.
