  1. According to the web site posted below, the Balmoral tartan, which only a Royal is entitled to wear, is not available for the public to purchase.  Although the public can purchase the Royal Stewart tartan, and advertising has commercialized the pattern widely, legally the Royal Stewart tartan also belongs solely to the Queen.  Since it is not a Clan Stewart tartan, it is not appropriate for anyone other than the British royal family to wear.

  2. She has 2  -  the Stewart  ( the one everyone recognises and the one sassanachs are allowed to wear )  and the Balmoral Tartan of Queen Victoria and Prince  Albert.  The latter can only be used with permission of the sovereign.

    (or something like that)

  3. Yes Queen Elizabeth II does have one. I didn't know we'd had 11 Elizabeths though!
