Does HDMI connectivity only deal with video?

This is a very stupid question and one I think I know the answer for... does HDMI just deal with video

There is a complication:

HDMI from DVD player to receiver

HDMI from receiver to TV

...

TV speakers do not work!?!

This is because the receiver strips off the audio so the TV speakers dont interfear with the 5.1 speaker system.

So while HDMI can carry both video and audio - sometimes the way you wire things up causes the audio to get stripped off.

nope, it also deals with audio as well. So if you connect an HDMI from your blu ray (hopefully you chose blu-ray) player to your tv, it will send both video and audio signals.
