  1. nope, totally different

  2. no

  3. Good lord no, this is a really lame sport compared to football and rugby.

  4. No  Not like Football yet keep in mind other then France Rugby doesn't have a strong following  in continental Europe. In Germany Team Handball is the 2nd most popular sport after Football with a strong pro league.

Handball is also played throughout and very popular in Scandinavia (Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden) Spain (also have a strong pro league), France  and into Eastern Europe- Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania and Russia to just name a few.  All of the above mentioned countries have pro teams and leagues.

Other parts of the world include Greenland, North Africa and South Korea which has a strong national team.

2007 HANDBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS was in the top 10 of most watched global sporting events ALONG WITH THE IRB Rugby World CUP Final. In summary FOOTBALL  (SOCCER) #1 and Rugby vs Handball all depends where in the world you are as Handball is mostly  unknown in English speaking countries. Probally has to do with the fact the sport originated in Denmark and Germany.
