Does High Definition use NTSC?

I meant to add that this is for a Hi Def Video camera - the Canon Vixia HF 10 to be specific - there is a PAL and a NTSC version - but why if HD doesn't use these standards?

  1. HD content is carried over-the air (antenna) via the ATSC specification in digitial channels; NOT the NTSC specification. NTSC is used for the older analog channels.

    Additional Details: The NTSC/PAL versions give people an ability to record & create HD DVDs, but play back to their existing NTSC/PAL based TVs via the cable (even HDTV support .
