Does Honda build any dual purpose on road off road bikes?

Does any one know if Honda builds any dual purpose bikes? I didn't see any listed on their website. I just got my motorcycle license so I think I would be more comfortable on a bike with turn signals and a speedometer. I know I can do some work to a dirt bike and take it on the street but I would rather get on that's ready to go on the street.

  1. ill give it to you straight, hondas most COMMON dirt/road bike is the Xr range

    These include

    Honda Xr 250

    Honda Xr 400

these are the most available and best honda offers everywhere. Great offroad and on road bikes

    cheers

  2. What you are actually looking for is a Honda which has a good ground clearance, a raised exhaust (so it doesn't mess with the dirt) and an overall peppy engine.

You will find all this and more in the Honda Varadero 125cc.  It is an extremely comfortable V-twin from Honda with loads of pulling power.  Check it out !

  3. Guardrail Jim is right... the Honda 650 and 230L are street legal. You might be able to get a dirt-only bike titled as street-legal, but it depends on the state you live in. More states are refusing to re-title bikes as street-legal, and you can't get a license without that.

If you do try to get an off-road bike titled as legal, the necessary modifications would include a headlight with dim/high beam function, turn signals, a rear/brake light, and a plate light and frame. (Baja Designs sells these lighting kits.) You'd need DOT-legal tires, and possibly a different muffler. You may end up spending more for these mods than if you had bought the street-legal version in the first place.

The Honda 230L is a good first bike according to Cycle World mag, I have no experience with either bike...  Suzuki has a street legal bike also (DR-Z400S), Yamaha has the TW200, the XT250, and the WR250R, and Kawasaki has a 650 dual sport.

All these answers assume you are in the US...

  4. you're new to motorcycles, so for a dual purpose bike you don't need anything bigger than a 250.

Honda made the xr250l from 1991 to 1996

they now sell a street legal crf230l but it is way underpowered, more of a kiddie bike

Kawasaki has the klr250.  the older ones are air-cooled and very simple and reliable.  the newer ones are liquid cooled and have a little more power.

Yamaha has the xt250, which is very similar to the crf230 in thats its outdated and underpowered.

Yamaha also has the wr250r which is the best 250 dualsport machine available, liquid cooled, aluminum frame, fuel injected.  very nice bike, but quite pricey.  they also sell a supermoto version wr250x

  5. Yes they do, but there are different models available in different countries. Here are a few different models which may, or may not, be sold where you live.

    XR125 L  UK

    XL125 V  UK

    CRF230 L  AU

    XR250 L   AU

    FMX 650  UK

    XR650 L   US

    XL650 V   AU

    XL700 V   AU & UK

  6. Honda's web site -

    http://powersports.honda.com/motorcycles...

    Go to - Off-Road

The "L" models are street legal.

  7. Depends on where you live.

In most of the world besides the U.S., Honda sells a full range of street-oriented dual-purpose bikes like the Varadero (1000cc), Africa Twin (750cc), and transalp (600cc).  However, none of those models are sold in the U.S.

Here, you're pretty much limited to the XR series if you're interested in something that can go highway speeds.

Looking at other manufacturers might be necessary if you want to broaden your selection.
