So every time I drink Horlicks my body reacts the same way it would had I consumed a laxative (did I word that as soft as I could of? haha, I don't know what the rules are here, first time asking a Q). Anyway, I just wanted to know if it contained ingredients used in laxatives, or is it just my own body's wierd reaction to something in it? As far as I knew, Horlicks is supposed to calm you down/relax muscles etc.

  1. don't know about Horlicks per se. but if you take it in milk, then milk could be the culprit. milk - especially warm milk, helps bowel movement.

  2. No, it contains malted barley, wheat and dairy ingredients.

You might have a food allergy

  3. Original Horlicks contains 703mg of calcium carbonate. That's what helps you sleep. Could have a laxative effect. Also not a good thing to consume after a meal as it neutralizes digestive acids. See ingredients here: http://www.horlicks.co.uk/products/PDFs/...
