Does Houston have the worst drivers or what???!?!!?!?

I moved to Houston from Minneapolis about 2 months ago....and I have noticed that the drivers here in Houston are awful!!! Its always an accident waiting to happen! The 2nd week here some idiot hit my car because he was turning from the 3rd lane!!

I would also like to know whats up with the freaking tail gating, not using the turning signal and hitting the breaks all of sudden for no apparent reason?? (example, Ive seen people come to a complete stop on 1960 with no turning signal NOTHING and they just sit there, then FINALLY they decide to turn into a residental street...wtf!) Is that what they teach in drivers ed here???

Don't get me wrong MN doesnt have perfect drivers but they are careful. They use signals and gradually slow down before coming to a stop. In these 2 months that I have been here I've seen more accidents then ever before (1 time I saw 3 accidents in a time span of 10 mins!).... and I come from a state where the winters are awful and the driving is more risky.

I am not an american but just reading thru questions came accross yours, i would say the driving you describe is pretty tame compared to here in Dubai i have been driving all round the midle east, far east and all thru europe for years and nothing can compare with here.

I recently went through Houston and yes they are very rude driver, not the worse but very close, also the police seem to take their time on everything because there was an accident and I called 911 and it took them 45 minutes to get there, good thing nobody was hurt........

Just came across the country last week from Ft Lauderdale to Orange County. I went through Houston on the 10 in the pouring rain, in a huge limo. The drivers I noticed switched lanes like maniacs, braked for no reason and I could see how dangerous they are. But no more stupid than the rest of the country. People are idiots and morons everywhere.

  People speed, cut other people off and do an array of complete bone head moves on the road because they have no regard for others safety or their own. Going over the speed limit seems to be their right as a driver. Chalk it up to stupidity. Also you must keep in mind that Texas is a border state. And if there are foreigners driving around they might be ignorant of the rules of safe driving. If people would just slow down and give the right of way to the other guy a little of the time it would be better. People should stop using the freeway as a raceway.

I'm from Eagan, MN and we do have a lot of good careful drivers not to say that we're perfect. I was in NY terrified out of my mind after seeing how they drive and I refused to drive while on vacation there... same things you're experiencing in TX plus the fact that the streets are crowded with taxis and pedestrians everywhere.

sounds like houstons pretty bad but it doesn't match up to Boston MA.  I've lived here my entire life and have seen so many car crashes.  Luckily i've only been in one.

We didn't get the nickname mass-holes on the road for no reason.

Driving south from Dallas, you start to notice it around Huntsville, and it just gets worse from there.
