  1. WLOX in Mississippi says that the hurricane is to hit Grand Isle LA if it does hit. However it could be off by 300 miles so if you are less than 300 miles I suggest waiting to see if you have to evaquate. I live on the MS gulfcoast and the Govenor says that the only people who should be evacuating first are the ones in mobile homes and temporary cottages. I highly doubt you have much to worry about though. If a Hurricane Watch is put in notice for your area that is when you need to evacuate.

  2. Not yet. They don't want premature evacuation to occur.

  3. they are not calling for evacuations in the Houston area.

If your cousin lives in the west side of Houston, tell him to stay put, because they crammed the roads during Rita and were not instructed to evacuate then, either.

There are places that are slated for evacuations in the imminent threat of a hurricane, which includes easternmost parts of Houston, nearest the water, and outlying cities that are in the path.

If there is an evacuation called, it won't be called until Sunday.  There is another storm right after Gustav, named Hannah, and she may hit us as well, but you don't know until it's right at your door, and everyone gets stuck on the highways because local law enforcement doesn't care about your getting out, but only about following the rules.  They won't let anyone just get out of the way by using alternate routes... They turn you right back around to get back into the gridlock.

    addendum:

Officials on the Texas/Louisiana border are not evacuating, and they are more likely to get hit than those in Houston, which is 2 hours west of the border.

There will more likely not be any mandatory evacuations unless all the weather models are wrong.  It's been known to happen, but I really doubt it.

    Thumbs down for what?

  4. No. not according to the 10 pm news

  5. that thing might be a category 2 or 3 by the time it hits us and that aint really enough to do anything
