Does Ikea furniture break easily?

I'm fixing up my room and want new furniture, and I was wondering since it's so cheap would it last long?

  2. it is attractive, and very affordable, and, with normal use, lasts a long time.

The engineered woods such as particle board and MDF will not take much of an impact.  And when they break, they are usually not very repairable (i.e., you won't just be able to glue them back together and have them hold.) Couple that with the fact that all the stress is concentrated on one or two spots with their KD fasteners.  If you treat it well it will last.  My brother- and sister-in-law have some that is more than 20 years old and still in very good condition.  However if you move it, I suggest taking it back apart.  I do moving claims and intrastate moves do not cover any damage to ready-to-assemble and knock-down furniture.

  4. It is not meant to be a lifetime purchase, so you do have to be careful with it.  It is fairly sturdy, but much easier to break than better quality things.  With care, it will last quite a few years.
