Does Israel have Nuclear Weapons?

The U.S. and other nations, including Russia and China, seem to have the technical capability of determing when a nuclear device has been tested? This was the case with India, Pakistan and North Korea.

Has Israel in fact tested such a device? Isn't it necessary to actually explode a nuclear weapon in order to determine if it is viable?

The biggest open secret in the diplomatic/defense world is that Isreal is a nuclear power. They have enough brain power and technical expertise that they can "test" a bomb on paper. That's not to say that they've never tested a bomb (See: Vela incident)

YES, technically the haven't said yes or no but when everyone wants to kill you nukes are a good line of defence.

With all the answers before mine, the only addition I have is that I have heard, from Ron Paul actually, that Israel has more than we do.

You don't actually have to have a live test, these days. You can "test" a device based on its design, the nature of the nuclear fuel (purity of uranium/plutonium), and amount of fissile material. Most testing these days is done in computer models. Technicians already know how they work, so computer modeling has been the way to go.

It's said that Israeli nukes are based on USA designs, so they don't really need to test what's already been tested to h**l and back, do they?

When Israel started constructing their own nuclear weapons, I'm sure they depended on tests conducted in the USA to verify their work.

Unofficially, yeah they have a c**p ton however nobody but they officially know because they have not come out and accknowledged they're nuclear presence to the world. they don't have to test them I'm sure they have gotten the designs from a certain allied nation with nuclear technology.

No, Israel hasn't done a nuke test.  They didn't need to; we gave them the designs and we had already tested them to h**l and back.  Why waste the weapon when the design has already been tested...
