  1. I think it is just because s*x is free.

And s*x is the leading cause of babies.  LOL

  2. So you think people reproduce less when the economy is slower? Why? In any case, economic downturns last a few quarters at most. baby booms are created over many years.

  3. I didn't know we were in another "baby boom".  I don't think the economy really plays into it anyway.  The reasons for population growth are mostly cultural (attitudes toward birth control, prevalence of rape, infant mortality rates, diet, etc.)

  4. I personally think it's really dumb, we are in a bad economy and all these kids being born are going to have a lot of trouble ahead of them, which wouldn't be as bad if there were fewer of them.

  5. You made an excellent point! Kudos to ya..

It dpes seem we enter a baby boom every time the economy is bad.

I'm not saying that this pertains to all mothers or mothers to be, because it simply doesn't, but if a poor couple with no children are in a financial bind (because of this horrible economy status), they may be seeking financial help from the government. Without children this is hard to do, so they may have kids so they can get better insurance, food stamps, get on H.U.D, etc.

Again this is not alway the case. This may not even be the case most of the time. But, before the baby boom, this was virtually never the case, but now that it is sometimes, it makes the pregnancies seem like they sky rocket.

And, as stated earlier by a previous contributor, s*x is free. Now that we don't have the money to do things we enjoyed doing before, we have s*x sometimes to cure boredom.

  6. Yes. You appear to be  sooooooooooooooooooooooo............ right, the total number of baby's born in the last year have almost equaled or exceeded the statistics of baby boom year of the early 1950s or so.
