People use it as a crutch to get their way. I was screwed out of a college education because an ex roommate had me scared to leave my new dorm. She threw the term around to stay out of trouble.

People like to play the minority card and sometimes the card is drawn by the person it'll hurt most.

Then people start hating the minority card and then the minority themselves.

Racism produces more racism.

Good observation, and the answer is an emphatic yes! from what I'm seeing is people just do not like being told "no" or hearing the truth as it really is, bluntly. So, their first reaction is to cry "foul" by playing race into it. Race is being used so much because people are buying into it more than ever because the politicians are making a platform out of it and the press is eating it up because it sells papers.

Racism has been around for centuries and will continue to be around for centuries more.

Kidding.  I think that the term is being tossed around more lately because we have an African American running for the Democratic Presidential Nomination.  I think that the fact that race has become a political issue lately has spilled over into our social interactions.
