Question:

Does Jobseekers stop automatically?

My boyfriend has just got a job but I'm not sure if jobseeker's allowance stops automatically once you find work? He asked me if it does but I was unable to give him an honest answer so thought I'd ask cos the last thing I want is him being accused of benefit fraud! I myself am disabled so it's not something I have ever had to understand because I've never yet had a job. Can someone please help? We live in the UK if it helps.

  1. Well done to your boyfriend for getting a new job. Glad to see the benefit system supporting those who deserve it. Yes, JSA will stop automatically when he doesn't turn up for his next appointment. They normally advise you send the little appointment book back indicating that you've found a job, but in all honesty, it makes little difference to them.

All the best to you and your boyfriend.

  2. You have to tell them.

  3. he has to sign off you get your money 2 weeks late so as long as he does not sign on again he will not be breaking the law but iof this new job ends and he has to sign on again, they will mess hime about big time.

so just incase if i was him id go down and sign off

  4. Yes. It will stop the day he starts work.

  5. doesn't stop automatically unless he gets the job from them  if not he should tell them

  6. You get a form (usually in your sign off book) that you have to fill in immediately once employed, stating your start date.  Your Jobseekers is terminated from the start of your employment

  7. it will because his employer will contact them for tax purposes.contact them yourself as well though just to be on the safe side.

  8. You need to declare the employment to the job centre. Payment will be stopped.

  9. It will stop when he starts working because he needs a P45 from the job centre with his earning on it and if he doesn't get one he will be put on emergency tax and pay a fortune in tax and the tax office computer and job centre ones are all connected. When he signs off  if he is getting his rent/council tax paid it will run on for a few weeks, the same as if he doesn't get paid for a month he will get job seekers until he gets a wage.

  10. when you claim for jsa it is usually paid two weeks in arrears so you will be entitled to jsa until your first wage (if paid weekly) just fill in your jsa booklet and return it to the jobcentre where you sign on and all will be sorted out by the jobcentre for you.

  11. he should tell them he's working, because if they overpay him he'll only have to pay it back, and that gets on your nerves.

  12. If he doesn't sign on it'll stop.

  13. You have to tell them. There is a form in the booklet that you get. If you don't tell them and they carry on paying you will have to pay it back and may get done for fraud.
